Before I begin I will say that I am from a large city, and that my opinions are purely observational.
But I have lived here since May 2010 now and this city has proven to me that snotty towns that are full of narrow minded ignorance are alive and well.
Why do I say that you ask ?, because back in Pittsburgh I could get a friendlier greeting from the neighborhood crack dealer.. this place is the "angsty" depressed stepchild of Oregon, the denizens of this place come off as aggressive, rude, arrogant and have a level of self admiration that wasn't even present in my old city, for a city with a 13%+ unemployment rate and a city that has no true claim to "Fame" minus the Lilo and Stich girl having been born here, notice she left too.
In Albany you have to personally know managers to have a prayer for a job.. I want it the way it was, huge city where applicants are accepted based on the application not who sold meth to the manager most recently.
No one talks to you, no one is even remotely social, and the mere attempt at eye contact is greeted with staring and a look that almost comes off as them taking offense to it, and god forbid you have a hairstyle that's not a buzz cut, that one has gotten me looked at so many times its become funny to observe.
Sure people will say UMADBRO or that's how small town life is but seriously.. a city with the most meth labs in western Oregon, a place with run down houses as far as the eye can see, and the highest unemployment rate because of a paper mill and some of the strangest people i've met in my life you should knock the attitudes down a peg.
I never thought you could fit the term Snob and Trailer Trash in to the same sentence but that pretty much sums Albany Oregon up, and I can't wait until this blogger is looking at it in the rear view mirror next month.
Big city life is the life for me.. this place can go .. well you get the point. ^.^
